Outlook 2011 For Mac Keeps Crashing Imapfasrsun

Strange issue here. I have a client who uses Outlook 2011 on a MacBook. He uses an IMAP account and every 7-10 days it tries re-downloading all the emails again.

The mailbox itself will be working absolutely fine, then one day when outlook is opened it randomly says at the bottom that it's downloading all the emails again (think he has around 1500 emails in his inbox).

It usually gets to around 400-450 downloaded, then Outlook hangs and crashes.

The only fix I've found for this was to make it download headers only for all emails (usually this is on but excludes the inbox). When it's set to only download headers for all folders, it doesn't crash, but emails then take an age to view, and they're not patient enough for that

I can't see any reason why Outlook feels the need to try and re-download every single email again, so if this was fixed then I suppose Outlook wouldn't keep crashing.

So far I've tried:

  • Outlook too crashes but not nearly as much as Excel. The user was originally using Office 2011 for Mac and Yosemite but in troubleshooting this issue, we've upgraded her Office to Office 2016 and OSX to El Capitan. However, the crashing still happens. We've installed all available updates for Outlook and Excel available from Microsoft too.
  • Detach Outlook Preferences. At times Outlook for Mac 2011 Crashes or Hangs at Start up due to corruption issues in Outlook preferences. For fixing this issue, move preferences for the desktop. Close all applications. Select Home from the Go Menu; Open Library from MAC OS X Lion. Open Preferences and move the following files to the desktop. In case few files are missing, move the remaining files as some files do not get created until an Outlook feature is used.

Quit all applications. Hold down the Option key on the keyboard, and then start Outlook 2011. Note You can also browse to the Database Utility by opening the Application folder and then opening the Microsoft Office 2011 folder. Open the Office folder, and then double-click Microsoft Database Utility.app. Detach Outlook Preferences. Cause

This problem occurs if the underlying file system is formatted as case-sensitive. In this scenario, the file is named OsfCore.framework. However, Outlook 2016 for Mac looks for a file that is named osfcore.framework and cannot find the file inside the app bundle.

You can use Disk Utility to determine whether the file system is formatted as case-sensitive. To do this, run Disk Utility, select the hard disk drive partition, and then select the Erase tab to view the Format option that's selected. If either of the case-sensitive options are selected, you may experience this problem.
